GARDEN TRAIL! |
| March
10, 2002 - All winter I have been collecting canna rhizomes to grow
this year. I can't wait to get them in the ground! I've collected about
45 varieties and am so excited too see them all bloom. My mom and I also started some seeds on 3/5. We've got a big seed basket so it was hard to choose what to start first but we decided on: *Annual Vinca *Sweet Pea *Gerber Daisy *Coreopsis Tinctoria *Tomato Better Boy Hybrid *Hollyhocks Peaches & Dreams *Alyssum Baskey of Gold *Egg Tree *Datura Metel - Ballerina Purple *White Datura *Mystery Hibiscus..our dwarf white, red and white hibiscus seeds got mixed together by accident! I noticed yesterday that the coreopsis is already sprouting and one of the hollyhocks is trying it's best! Keeping my fingers crossed on the others but I bet the datura takes the longest. We didn't soak any of the seeds before starting them. |

- The garden has been so exciting this year. Here are some pictures
of our best flowers! June 25,
2001 - Oh wow.. I thought they were bug eggs.. I was hoping ladybugs
and dreading that they might be beetle eggs or something but I asked
on gardenweb.com just what these
round black eggs were on my lilies and found that they are actually
not eggs at all! They are bulbils, and each one will hopefully be able
to grow a new lily! We're so excited! Here is a
picture of my "eggs" :) Propagating

- Wow, I have been gardening to the exclusion of everything else! I have sunflower sprouts, dahlias coming up and Wee B Little pumpkin sprouts. We're very excited about the Wee B Littles.. don't you just love the name? Baby's Breath came up under my tree where i had some past year and the bleeding hearts are my favorite right now. The hostas are still doing well too! |
| April 12, 2001 - I hope to plant 7 rosebushes and 6 voila etain today. The begonias are a definite no-go as something has eaten all of them. The corner flowerbed does have a toad house now and a hosta and turtlehead poking through the soil. The crabapple tree is in beautiful bloom right now, too bad the fruit has to be such a nuisance! |

- I am planting sunflowers today and tilling a bed on the sunny side
of the garage for hollyhocks that will hopefully arrive this week. The lillies planted about a week or so ago are sprouting and also the hostas from last year are back and growing FAST! They really like the shady moist soil under the tree in the front yard. |
| April 2, 2001 - I put ten more begonia bulbs out in the shady rock garden I built a couple of weeks ago. Just before dark I checked on them and at least one was gone already. The squirrels had a taste for Chez Begonia on the corner i suppose... sigh.. I hope to have some begonias this year even if I have to grow them in pots! |
